Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure participation in multiple interactions with sports officials relevant to the candidate's current or intended work role to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.

Assessment must also ensure access to:

relevant sports officials

a coaching setting including athletes participating in activities or competitions

organisational policies and procedures in relation to interacting with officials.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of interaction with sports officials in forming and maintaining effective working relationships

oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of the functions and responsibilities of sports officials

third-party reports from a supervisor detailing work performance over multiple applications.

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended.

relevant sport-specific coaching units of competency.

Assessment Tasks

the role of the captain in dealing with on-field officials

disputes and protests (processes and procedures)

pre- and post-competition communication

communication between athletes, coaches and officials

the officials' duty of care

coach and official relationships

interpretation of the laws and rules that govern the sport or activity.

Organisational policies and procedures may include:

occupational health and safety

duty of care

conflict resolution procedures

communication protocols

mediation

protocols on criticism of officials.

Athletes may include:

beginner through to high performance level competitors

female or male

children

those with or without a disability or special needs

those with or without social disadvantage

minority ethnic and cultural groups.
